Research on feasibility of smart city business model - your help needed

Real estate developers who want to rent out more square meters as living space, in stead of sacrificing space for storage

We are looking for developers or owners of real estate who want to examine the possibilities of our virtual alternative to storage to replace the (mandatory) storage space in appartment buildings. We believe the virtual storage space is a cheaper, more efficient place to store the items people don't (often) need. Thus making physical storage space in buildings obsolete, and enabling the developer to house more people on the same amount of square meters.

Below a description in Dutch. For more information, discussions or brain storming, feel free to contact me: tim@inboxstorage.eu

Our daily and urban live is more and more driven by digital innovations. Technology will make are cities greener, healthier and smarter. But there are also some important questions left unanswered. Should we control data and the use of algorithms? How do we organize digital trust? Will everybody benefit from the digital society?

The Amsterdam Economic Board will launch the manifesto 'responsible digital cities' on october 31st to start this discussion. During this event we offer a few spots for startups, pilots or other initiatives to pitch ideas that contribute to a responsible digital city (a.o. transparant, inclusive, accountable). Smart home and smart living: REQUEST FOR EXAMPLES IN AMSTERDAM (and around)

CAN YOU HELP ME WITH EXAMPLES?
For a visit in Singapore, I promised that would try to get some info from companies or people involved in examples in and around Amsterdam. So, that is why I ask for info about concrete examples smart home/living. I most certainly will mention the name of your company and/or you if I use the info (and tell yuo if used).

Apart from the general interest I have since I am also CTO at Amstelveen, where we might want to do something in this area as well. But, that is no rush at the moment :)

So can you send me some information about examples: maybe a short description (Word or PDF) and an URL for more info. Mail me please on tfv2103@gmail.com. My australian number (I am available the next 4 hours; after that I am in the plain) is: 0481184872

Topics that I really like to know from your example:
- where is and since when the smart home/living?
- by whom, for whom made/realised?
- what is it about? Why is it or what makes it smart?
- results: i.e. which: i.e. some learningpoints in realisation and what added value already visible (i.e. advantages compared with more traditional homes/living, savings etc)?

And maybe, if possible, as well an idea of
- needed time and effort to realise;
- costs and savings.
- riscs.

Please mail me on tfv2103@gmail.com.

I work at the society of Amsterdam (within CTO) and I am CTO in Amstelveen. So, apart from the need now, I also do have a general interest to see what we can do in Amstelveen perhaps as well. C for more info about me at linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/theoveltman/

Thanks for trying!

Looking for thesis research topics on smart cities

Hi to all members of the community,

I have been following what people are talking around here and the more I read, the more I want to contribute in a way to help the development of smart cities knowledge.

As a short intro about myself, next year I'm going to be in the fourth and last year of my bachelor called "Business Innovation" in Amsterdam. I have a desire to do a research that focuses on the greater society and solving issues for people/planet, and I believe smart cities can offer that.

To be clear, I am not interested in doing research for i.e. "best practices inside a company to develop x,y,z"; but looking for topics such as "How will people's life change in the next 20 years in cities because of high migration number, and how smart cities can help?"

I would like to ask the community's suggestions to what are, in your opinion, important research topics worth of digging in; and secondly, if you know a company that might need me.

Key words: smart grids, renewable energy, blockchain, IoT, transportation, community, sharing economy, citizens empowerment; government; buildings; circular economy;

I'm very curious what you have on your mind, so please share it with me. Thank you!

Best regards,
Tudor

Looking for Internship in field of Sustainable Urban Planning; Sustainable Societies;

Within the scope of my studies I am looking for an Internship (up to 6 months) in the field of Sustainable Urban Planning; Green Cities; Sustainable Societies from November 2017 on. Currently, I am studying ‘Global Studies’ (MA) at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden with a focus on the field of ‘human ecology’ – a broad domain which initially engages in researching the impact of human societies on nature (anthropogenic environmental change) and which involves concepts/approaches on how to challenge a human-based world-view and how to make our societies more sustainable to change/transform this world-view and create more sustainable societies in the future. I very much focus on local sustainable development in terms of "green urbanism" (ecological&urban can go together) i.e. adaptation strategies of local communities to climate change which preferably involve urban planning/creating green spaces in urban areas (urban gardening/community gardens);behavioral change i.e. 'nudging' people into thinking about how they themselves could do something good for nature in their daily life's (take the bike to work/buy less meat/recycle/install solar panels/challenge food waste) as well as the possibilities of establishing and support local agriculture which enables a certain food security and sovereignty.
Amsterdam City seems to be very progressive when it comes to Sustainable Urban Planning and I would very much like to be a part of it for some time (during my internship), but could also imagine to make Amsterdam a long-term living option. Since there exist so many networks and organizations and collaborations in Amsterdam regarding my chosen field I am a bit lost and would appreciate it if you would help me out!
Thank you!

Smart City "Experts" for an E-Mail-Interview

Hello :)
I’m Christine Linnartz and currently studying “Urban Culture, Society and Space” at the University Duisburg-Essen (Germany). In my master’s thesis “Who owns the smart city?” I want to clarify which role citizens, technology and companies play in today’s smart cities. Although the basis for my thesis is the current literature, I want to know what experts perceive and think.
My plan is to do remote interviews, either I send you the questionnaire with the questions via e-mail and you fill out them right way or I’ll call you.

Thanks in advance!

Conversation about civic engagement in smart city initiatives

Hello,

My name is Teska and I am currently writing my masterthesis about civic engagement in the smart city developments. As a case I am analyzing this platform and look how different stakeholders position civic engagement, since the citizen is presented as an important link between the different stakeholders. I am looking for people that are also interested in the role of citizens within the smart city developments. Do you have a company or project that is focused on citizens or do you mainly follow the theme Citizens & Living on this platform?

Send me a direct message or email to teskadrosten@gmail.com. It will be valuable to talk with some people about this subject next to my own analysis.

Thank you in advance!

Best,

Teska Drosten
