TBB, The Business Booster by InnoEnergy

TBB. is a two-day international event connecting leading industries and bright minds
from business start-ups and SME’s. Showcasing over 60 innovative technologies in sustainable energy, TBB features also inspiring speakers on the latest trends in the energy sector.

This year the event topic will be "Accelerating Clean Energy Innovations". At the end of 2016, the European Commission released the Clean Energy for All Europeans package, a set of measures to boost the clean energy transition by providing a strong market pull for new technologies, setting the right conditions for investors, empowering consumers, making energy markets work better and helping us meet our climate targets.

One of the main key factors pinpointed by the Commission as an enabler of the change to a low-carbon economy, is the acceleration of clean energy innovations.

Strongly aligning with our mission at InnoEnergy to be key enablers of this acceleration, we have chosen this as the topic for the 2017 edition of The Business Booster – 25-26 October, RAI Amsterdam.

Contest Hansa Green Tour for Start-ups in energy transition that want to do business in Germany and Denmark

Succes!

City-zen shows European cities the way

Running cities on clean energy may be technically feasible, but it is very tricky from an organisational and economic point of view. The EU project City-Zen is readying hearts and minds for the challenge. The Delft Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment is doing its bit in the form of trial projects, serious gaming and Roadshows through European cities.

E BETABREAK ONDER STROOM – De Slimme Energietransitie

Regulatory, financial and social barriers & solutions for innovation: lessons learned from EU smart cities projects

Featured image

The challenge to develop smart cities is not only a technological challenge but also a regulatory, financial and social one. In fact, some non-technical issues may be more challenging to resolve than the technological barriers and the success of a project can depend on this.

By aggregating best practice and lessons learned from projects implemented across Europe, the Smart Cities Information System (SCIS) provides a valuable repository of information for all smart city stakeholders. This webinar aims to present the SCIS framework for addressing non-technical issues in the fields of Energy, Mobility & Transport and ICT by showcasing examples of:

Main financial and economic barriers encountered by smart cities projects related to access to capital or various risks and uncertainties
Regulatory and administrative barriers such as restrictive or changing regulatory regimes, regulations and standards, administrative capacity and burdens
Measures needed to promote social acceptance and uptake of technologies and solutions among stakeholders and the lifestyle and behavioural aspects that should be addressed to ensure their widest possible implementation.

Responding to the digital infrastructure energy challenge

With exponential demand driven by IoT, Smart Cities and Big Data applications, there is a growing need to efficiently power more localised, more agile and much more scalable IT infrastructure.

The Energy Smart Summit brings together business, operations and technology executives from the region’s data center-scale organisations to discuss how operators can leverage on advanced and integrated tech in order to become “energy smart”, both inside and outside of their data center. Advancements in software-defined, open source, AI, and highly efficient UPS technologies, to smart grid integration and green power resource, is accelerating the industry towards the energy smart data center.

We will be bringing together the people that build the power infrastructure and the people that build the digital infrastructure under one roof in one of the world’s most energy-aware and connected capital cities.

How will the disaggregated data center feed off the energy networks of the future? Will edge strategies be defined by energy grids? What are the latest advancements in software-defined power and cooling innovations and how can we secure our critical infrastructure in the age of IoT?

The data center is the physical manifestation of smart cities, smart grids, smart phones and smart buildings … So let’s have an energy smart conversation about how it all pulls together. This conversation links the silicon chip to the hydro power station.

CO2 Smart Grid

How will we provide food to growing cities with a shrinking amount of agricultural land? How can we provide enough fresh water for everyone? Just as relevant: how should we make the transfer to a safe, clean and reliable energy supply?

How will we provide food to growing cities with a shrinking amount of agricultural land? How can we provide enough fresh water for everyone? Just as relevant: how should we make the transfer to a safe, clean and reliable energy supply?

The large amount of CO2 put into the atmosphere because of human activity causes climate change, threatening our quality of life and security and that of future generations. This has been acknowledged by (inter)national governments – for instance at the COP21 in Paris in 2015 -; They pledge large emission reductions. In the Netherlands, we aim for a reduction of 85-95 percent by the year 2050.

So, we have to reduce CO2 by expansive measures, and everyone should feel the responsibility to work on this challenge as effectively as possible. However, perceiving this issue as only a problem, by incrementally reducing CO2, will not lead to a satisfying end result. We should instead approach this as a huge opportunity for the Dutch economy. Our statement?

CO2 IS NOT ONLY A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WASTE MATERIAL, IT IS ALSO A IMPORTANT ASSET FOR THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY.

What is the situation?

2361402328.png

CO2 is a raw material in for instance the horticulture and the chemical industry. This is a business case with growth potential.

What do we want to do?

3227563483.png

Use CO2 in a smart way so we can reduce the use of raw materials of fossil origin.

Renewable energy provides 5 times more jobs than coal mines in the U.S.

According to the U.S. Energy Department and leaders of the solar and wind industries the rural areas that missed out on economic growth under President Barack Obama are benefiting from the expansion of clean energy. And that growth isn’t driving the collapse of coal mining, according to Abigail Hopper, the recently hired chief executive officer of the Solar Energy Industries Association.
