Fashion for Good Amsterdam: PATCHWORK 2020 - Exhibition Tour by Tess van Zalinge

Featured image

Please join us for a very special inside look at our latest exhibition ‘Patchwork 2020’ – the first ever digital collection from Dutch designer Tess van Zalinge! Tess will share insights into working with trailblazing digital technology alongside the traditional craftsmanship of demi-couture, to explore and push the boundaries of what sustainable fashion looks like in the future.

About the Collection

Earlier this year Tess van Zalinge was invited to establish a new demi-couture collection at Helsinki Fashion Week 2020. Due to the global situation, a physical show was not possible and Helsinki Fashion Week became the first-ever virtual fashion week around the world. This served as the main source of inspiration for Tess’ new collection ‘Patchwork 2020’ - her first digital collection. The collection makes use of cutting edge technologies to translate the craftsmanship of Tess’s pieces into digital: the handcraft details and tactility all requiring many layers of development. The exhibition aims to show how working with what you have available can lead to inspiration, innovation and sustainability.

About Tess van Zalinge

Tess’ love for heritage, detailed craftsmanship and historical costume design are common themes throughout her work. Tess translates her conscious mindset both into her designs and values as a label. Each piece from her collections is handcrafted in her beautiful Amsterdam atelier, where she constantly explores the potential for responsibility in fashion through fresh collaborations, inspiring partnerships and new demi-couture collections. Fine quality and longevity have been the prime focus for the label since its founding. Since then, Van Zalinge has launched a demi-couture collection every year and has worked on multiple collaborations including Fashion for Good, Artis, WNF, Royal Delft, Circl, the Centraal Museum Utrecht and more.

Your ticket price is a donation that goes towards the Fashion for Good Experience, helping to bring these kinds of events to life!

Innovators Pitching

GALY engineers cotton in labs, rather than farming. They grow cotton through the multiplication of cells directly into the cotton fibre (removing steps of traditional cotton plantation). As a result they can grow cotton without the use of pesticides or fertilisers, using considerably less water. They are developing a faster, cleaner, less resource intensive cotton cultivation method, which can be more cost effective than traditional cotton in future.

hydroCotton grows cotton in a sustainable way in their research lab in South London. The technology that they have developed specifically for cotton agriculture enables them to reduce the volume of water and fertiliser used by up to 80%. Their farms are equipped with a network of smart sensors allowing tracking of farm data in real-time. They grow pesticide-free cotton, employing alternative pest control methods.

InfiniChains is a traceability & sustainability tech company with a focus on green supply chains. Their platform - CREDIBLE, stitches fragmented supply chain data to provide a comprehensive end-to-end traceability for the textile value chain. CREDIBLE complements existing supply chain systems by providing end to end traceability, certification & compliance management and intelligence engine around sustainability.

Innovation Masterclass: Changing the Future of Fashion

Featured image

While in the first and second masterclass we looked at what brands and manufacturers are doing differently right now, our third session looks to the future – at the role education plays in equipping us with the skillsets needed for today’s challenges and beyond. Register to get your spot!

Introducing Fashion for Good's Innovation Masterclass series - a chance to dig deeper into sustainable fashion with insights and expertise from across the fashion industry.

Over three sessions you will learn about how innovation creates positive impact across each step of the fashion value chain; a must for anyone studying or working in fashion or interested in how innovations are changing fashion for good.

We’ll be (virtually) inviting key industry leaders to co-host an interactive masterclass with a Fashion for Good expert. They’ll share what they’re doing to integrate and champion innovation within their organisations and will share key learnings they’ve gathered along their journey. Each masterclass will focus on a particular theme from a different perspective; from brands, to producers and educators!

What will you learn in this Masterclass?

While in the first and second masterclass we looked at what brands and manufacturers are doing differently right now, our third session looks to the future - at the role education plays in equipping us with the skillsets needed for today's challenges and beyond.

As we’ve seen, this change will not only come from fashion designers, we need new business models and technical innovations just as much. We'll be inviting a range of speakers from different disciplines to shed light on how they motivate and prepare their students to disrupt the fashion industry. What vision for the future do they have and what learnings can you take away from their teaching methods to apply in your own work?

We'll look at what has changed over the years, how the different disciplines can work together, what “skillsets” are needed and where to get these skills, as well as the most valuable lessons that lie in today's classrooms!

ABOUT ASKET

Founded 2015 in Stockholm, by August Bard Bringéus and Jakob Dworsky, ASKET is a menswear brand on a mission to end overconsumption and restore value to the apparel industry. The approach is simple; do away with seasonal collections that only fuel a cycle of fast-consumption habits, instead replacing it with a single permanent collection of mindfully produced, quality and timeless garments - designed to last a lifetime, not 5 washes.
