How grass-root initiatives contribute to the development of vital urban areas

R-LINK researches how small grass-root initiatives in development of city areas can help to solve societal issues. This will contribute to create vital and inclusive urban regions.

Amsterdam Smart City program partners HvA, Pakhuis de Zwijger, Waag Society and Amsterdam Economic Board participate in the R-Link consortium.

Fighting a running battle - New Dutch homes still get gas connections.

While many cities in the Netherlands want to go 'off grid' and disconnect their buildings from the gas network, the odd situation arises that 60% of the newly build homes between 2017-2021 will have a gas connection. This is due to the 'right to be connected to gas' in the Dutch gas law.

Utrecht Jaarbeurs adds huge Tesla battery to power parked electric cars

As many visitors arrive and leave at the Jaarbeurs at the same times, the charging sessions are also taking place at the same time. To avoid stress on the local electricity grid and to avoid costs to install a connection with a larger capacity, a battery will be installed this summer.

Your car as a battery

More households than ever produce their own solar energy with PV panels. But they only use 17% directly and feed the other 83% into the grid. Wouldn't it be great to store this surplus energy in a battery for later use? Especially if you could use your the battery of your electric or hybrid car to do this. Most Mitsubishi cars are already future proof.

City-zen shows European cities the way

Running cities on clean energy may be technically feasible, but it is very tricky from an organisational and economic point of view. The EU project City-Zen is readying hearts and minds for the challenge. The Delft Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment is doing its bit in the form of trial projects, serious gaming and Roadshows through European cities.

E BETABREAK ONDER STROOM – De Slimme Energietransitie

De productie van groene energie stijgt gestaag. Zonne- en windenergie zijn superschone manieren om elektriciteit op te wekken, maar de stroomproductie is niet altijd even voorspelbaar. Om toch iedereen van energie te voorzien zijn slimme oplossingen nodig. Waar blijft al die zonne-energie op een mooie zomerdag en hoe zet je een kopje koffie op een windstille avond? Dit en meer op woensdag 17 mei bij de BètaBreak!

De BètaBreak is een maandelijkss discussieplatform tijdens de lunch in de centrale hal van de Faculteit voor Natuurwetenschappen, Wiskunde en Informatica van de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Elke derde woensdag van de maand tussen 12.00 en 13.00 gaat een panel van wetenschappers, mensen uit het bedrijfsleven, politici en schrijvers met studenten in gesprek over een beta-gerelateerd onderwerp.
