Londen to hire first Chief digital officer

Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, has launched his search to find London’s first ever Chief Digital Officer (CDO) as he pushes London to be the world’s leading smart city.

“I want to take the digital transformation of our public services to the next level, so we can improve the ways in which we plan and deliver public services for Londoners,” said Khan. “London is a world-leading hub for digital technology, data science and urban innovation. These technologies have the potential to transform the way that Londoners and visitors experience our city.”

E BETABREAK ONDER STROOM – De Slimme Energietransitie

Data Management & Privacy in Smart Cities - Watch this!

Green Digital Charter / ESPRESSO projects organized last week a joint-webinar on “Data Management and Privacy in Smart Cities”

A recording of the webinar is available at http://bit.ly/2qeWzXA, and presentations can be accessed on our website (http://bit.ly/2omBDO1).
What I found particularly interesting is the example of the City card in Zaragoza by Daniel Sarasa, co-author of Zaragoza’s Open Government Strategy 2012-2015, presented his “Guidelines on Urban Big Data Sharing”.
The next speaker, Antonio Kung (CTO of Trialog) focused on the standardised methodology to privacy-by-design developed by the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (EIP-SCC) ‘Citizen Focus’ Action Cluster.

Regulatory, financial and social barriers & solutions for innovation: lessons learned from EU smart cities projects

Featured image

The challenge to develop smart cities is not only a technological challenge but also a regulatory, financial and social one. In fact, some non-technical issues may be more challenging to resolve than the technological barriers and the success of a project can depend on this.

By aggregating best practice and lessons learned from projects implemented across Europe, the Smart Cities Information System (SCIS) provides a valuable repository of information for all smart city stakeholders. This webinar aims to present the SCIS framework for addressing non-technical issues in the fields of Energy, Mobility & Transport and ICT by showcasing examples of:

Main financial and economic barriers encountered by smart cities projects related to access to capital or various risks and uncertainties
Regulatory and administrative barriers such as restrictive or changing regulatory regimes, regulations and standards, administrative capacity and burdens
Measures needed to promote social acceptance and uptake of technologies and solutions among stakeholders and the lifestyle and behavioural aspects that should be addressed to ensure their widest possible implementation.
