Open access toolkit of people-centered methods for urban planners, designers, and advocates to make cycling inclusive and accessible to all.

Het afgelopen jaar verschenen er tal van rapporten over digitalisering en technologisering. Maar wat kunnen we daarmee in 2022? Welke lessen kunnen we trekken voor de slimme stad? Welke ideeën kunnen ons gaan inspireren in dit nieuwe smartcityjaar?

Dit soort gesprekken voer je normaal gesproken als je elkaar tegenkomt tijdens een nieuwjaarsborrel, een congres of een andere netwerkbijeenkomst. Helaas kan dit nu even niet fysiek, maar gelukkig laat het digitale ons niet in de steek. Zo kunnen we toch met elkaar nieuwe kennis delen en verspreiden.

Daarom is de Future City Foundation op zoek gegaan naar de makers en bedenkers achter de rapporten. Zo gaan we op 26 januari in gesprek met deelfietsgoeroe van Nederland Ronald Haverman en laten ons door zijn ideeën inspireren.

Achttien jaar geleden was het nog een utopie: fietsen die je kunt delen. Niet voor Ronald Haverman, de bedenker van een van de eerste deelfietsen ter wereld: de (inmiddels bekende) OV-fiets.

Maar wat is de volgende innovatie? Want Haverman is nog lang niet klaar met oplossingen bedenken. Hij is inmiddels werkzaam als mobiliteitsstrateeg bij de provincie Zuid-Holland en deelt op 26 januari zijn ideeën over hoe deelmobiliteit een oplossing kan zijn voor ruimtegebrek en een meer duurzame samenleving.

Hoe ziet hij dat voor zich? Hoe zet je bijvoorbeeld slimme oplossingen als geofencing in om deelmobiliteit optimaal te laten werken? Wat is de volgende OV-fiets?

How to make smart mobility hubs work for everyone? The why of citizen engagement

There are quite some challenges for cities and other stakeholders to make mobility solutions well-tailored for everyone. It starts with finding suitable methods to engage and actively involve different user groups, such as citizens. Subsequently, they have to identify individual user needs with the traveller and co-create transport solutions for the traveller.

With citizen engagement, we try to provide the silent majority with an opportunity to raise their voice. If the SmartHubs project engages the citizen, the city-citizen relation will improve.

Marc Boijens and Laurens van Roozendaal will share some use cases and methods, actively involving the audience.

Decision support systems for locating smart mobility hubs

With the growing use of shared mobility modes comes the need to regulate and organize them into hub access points that offer several modes together. But there's a challenge. How should these hubs be located in a city so that they contribute to mobility sustainability and positively impact its urban fabric?

With that in mind, the SmartHubs project has been developing a decision support tool to help find the best potential areas for installing shared mobility hubs. It comprises a multi-criteria approach that integrates several objectives into the same overall potential score, providing cities with a geographical picture of where they should prioritize their investments.

Gonçalo Homem de Almeida Rodriguez Correia and Miquel Martí Casanovas will explain the method behind the decision support tool, using the city of Amsterdam as an example.

How to build the right ecosystem to make smart mobility hubs work?

An ecosystem consists of many parties, and it's beneficial for incremental innovation if there, somehow, is a connection between them. But what if your innovation is disruptive and an entire ecosystem has to undergo a transition? How do you find the right partners for your envisioned ecosystem? How can you create a common goal that is equally beneficial for all partners?

SmartHubs are not about technology but about creating an ecosystem with a solid value proposition and the right business models.

Marc Boijens and Laurens van Roozendaal will tell you more about how they tackle the challenges they encounter in the SmartHubs project.

De jaarlijkse Smart City Expo World Congress komt er al weer bijna aan! Deze vindt plaats op 16 – 18 november 2021 (maar eigenlijk begint het al de 14e). Naast het officiële missieprogramma van RVO hebben Amsterdam Smart City, G40, Future City Foundation en BTG ook eigen excursies en kennissessies georganiseerd.

Ben je in Barcelona voor de Smart City Expo en/of de RVO missie, dan kun je natuurlijk met ons mee! Door kennis op te doen voor de Nederlandse praktijk en andere deelnemers nog beter te leren kennen, kun je je tijd in Barcelona zo optimaal benutten.

Deelnemen aan de excursies is kosteloos. We verwachten dat je op eigen gelegenheid naar de programmalocaties komt.

Maandag 15 november

Hoe worden we de best verbonden samenleving in de wereld?

9.00 uur – Ontbijt en aftrap
We gaan naar Barcelona om te leren hoe we van Nederland de best verbonden samenleving van de wereld kunnen maken. We leggen uit wat deze moonshot is en hoe je daaraan kan meedoen. Want er zijn nogal wat acties te verrichten.

10.00 uur – Deelmobiliteit met Donkey Republic
Hoe zorgen we dat deelmobiliteit een oplossing is voor duurzame mobiliteit en voorkomen we verrommeling van de openbare ruimte? We gaan in gesprek met Allard Kalverkamp van Donkey Republic, een deelfietsoperator, die zowel in Nederland als in Barcelona werkt. Hoe gaan de gemeente Barcelona en de Metropoolregio om met de opkomst van deelmobiliteit? En natuurlijk fietsen we zelf ook een rondje! Locatie volgt (centrum Barcelona).

12.00 uur – Lunch en wrap-up
Learnings ophalen. Hoe kunnen we deze kennis toepassen in Nederland?

13.30 uur – Burgerparticipatie met Decidim
Hoe betrek je inwoners bij een stad en zorg je met een platform voor meer democratisering van bestuur? Hoe creëer je in samenspraak met burgers oplossingen? Ga mee naar Decidim, een open-source democratisch platform dat door de stad Barcelona wordt gebruikt om burgers te betrekken. Arnau Monterde vertelt hoe zij werken en tot welke veranderingen methodes hebben geleid? Locatie: Canòdrom, Carrer de Concepción Arenal, 165, 08027 Barcelona

Gebiedsontwikkeling

9.00 uur: Ontbijt
Hoe ga je van instrumentontwikkeling naar gebiedsontwikkeling? Hoe schaal je de smart city op en zorg je dat zij het nieuwe normaal wordt?

10.00 – 12.00 uur: Tour door Superblok Poblenou
In deze wijk zijn alle essentiële functies zijn op 15 minuten wandelen te bereiken. Ook is de mobiliteit in dit gebied aangepakt. Hoe kwam dit superblok tot stand en hoe kunnen Nederlandse steden en gemeentes hiervan leren? Exacte programma en locatie volgen.

12.00 – 13.00 uur: Lunch en wrap-up
Wat kunnen we leren van hoe Poblenou is opgezet? Is dit ook werkbaar voor Nederlandse steden en dorpen? En hoe betrek je bewoners in zo’n ontwerp?

13.00 – 18.00 uur: Smart City Expo (Fira Barcelona)
Tijd om te netwerken bij de Paviljoens van allerlei landen en steden. Doe mee met een inkomende of uitgaande missie, ga mee op safari, leer de mensen bij Holland Paviljoen kennen en ontdek welke kansen de beursvloer biedt.

Woensdag 17 november

Ethiek en sensoriek (van het riool van Barcelona)

9.00 uur: Ontbijt
We beginnen bij de vraag hoe waardecreatie kan ontstaan via dit project. Ook gaan we in op het nieuwe boek van de CityDeal (in de maak) ‘Zo creëer je waarde’.

11.00 – 12.00 uur: Bezoek aan de riolen van Barcelona
We bezoeken een meetstation en zien hoe data worden verzameld op wijkniveau. Wat kun je leren van het riool op gebied van watermanagement en hoe is het gesteld met de gezondheid van inwoners? Hoe koppel je sensordata aan gericht beleid en aan handelingsperspectieven? Daarna bezoeken we het kantoor van s::can en leren we meer over de gebruikte sensoren en de data. De toepassing op wijkniveau in plaats van op stadsniveau in Barcelona is redelijk uniek. Wat kunnen wij van hen leren en wat is toe te passen in Nederland?

12.00 – 13.00 uur: Lunch
Lunch en debat over de ethische vragen die dit met zich meebrengt.

13.00: Smart City Expo
Tijd voor een tweede middag op de Smart City Expo (Fira Barcelona).

Het is al weer een tijdje geleden dat we iets hebben gepost over Project Scale Up.
Scale Up is het programma dat uitzoekt hoe je bezoekersstromen kunt beïnvloeden om drukte op hotspots te voorkomen. De Provincies Noord-Holland en Flevoland, Gemeente Amsterdam en Vervoerregio Amsterdam hebben hierover vragen aan de markt gesteld. Met een innovatieve manier van aanbesteden jagen we de ontwikkeling van oplossingen voor gedragsbeïnvloeding aan.

Het was even stil omdat we druk bezig zijn geweest met alle voorbereidingen zodat onze twee consortia goed van start konden. Er is veel gebeurd in de tussentijd, we geven je graag een update!

We zijn met deze twee consortia in zee gegaan (letterlijk!):
·       LYNXX B.V., REISinformatiegroep B.V. (9292) en HERE Europe B.V.;
·       Sweco B.V., Scenwise, Livecrowd, PTV Nederland, TomTom en ViNotion.

✓ We hebben een samenwerking gestart met gemeente Zandvoort waar het niet alleen tijdens de F1 druk wordt maar natuurlijk ook tijdens de zomer. Deze geliefde strandlocatie is perfect om de 2 oplossingen van de consortia te testen.

✓ We hebben allerlei data verzameld. De grote vraag voor ons was ‘Hoe kun je drukte voorspellen en welke databronnen kun je daarvoor het beste gebruiken?’. Dat was soms nog een zoektocht omdat dit soort data niet zo maar klaar op de plank liggen.

✓ We hebben meerdere kennissessies gehad een daarbij veel kennis met elkaar gedeeld. Bijvoorbeeld: Johan Cruijff Arena heeft met ons resultaten en lessons learned van eerdere projecten rondom drukte en gedragsbeïnvloeding gedeeld. Daarnaast hebben we meer over de drukke recreatiegebieden in Provincie Noord Holland geleerd en de draagkracht daarvan.

Amsterdam is investing heavily in shared transport. Shared cars, scooters and  bicycles make the city more accessible. That last option is healthy, clean and popular. For those who don’t have a bike, or looking for a second bike, we have a shared bike. The city of Amsterdam will receive 1,400 shared bicycles, including 100 shared electric cargo bikes. Some are allready on the streets; the rest will follow from August 15.

Where can you find shared bikes?
At the Zuidas, along the ‘Westlijn’ of the metro, in Oost and Zuidoost. Electric shared cargo bikes can be found in Oost and Zuid. There is a maximum number of shared bicycles per area. It is a 2 year experiment. Then we'll see if we continue.

• FlickBike: 400 shared bicycles along metro stations on the ‘Westlijn’ (from Henk Sneevlietweg to Isolatorweg) and the bus to Westpoort, from 15 June
• Cargoroo: 100 electric shared cargo bicycles in Oost and Rivierenbuurt (Zuid), from 15 June
• Donkey Republic: 300 shared bicycles in Oost, from 15 August
• Soon to be announced: 400 shared bicycles Zuidoost and 200 shared bicycles Zuidas from 15 August

Where do I park the shared bike?
A shared bicycle is a good means of transport for commuters and visitors. The bicycles are usually located near a public transport junction. They have their own parking spaces and must be returned to 1 of the parking spaces of that provider. Only in those places can you stop the rent. The shared cargo bikes have their own parking space, clearly marked on the ground. You can of course park the bike somewhere else in between, but then you will continue to pay. That way the bikes won't roam, is the idea.

Amsterdammers are a lot more positive about shared transport than day trippers and commuters, and cost savings are seen as the biggest advantage. It also appears that many Amsterdammers have old assumptions with regard to availability and costs. The municipality of Amsterdam has therefore launched a campaign to draw attention to the many advantages of shared transport.

Research
The municipality of Amsterdam has commissioned a survey among Amsterdammers, day trippers and commuters. It is clear that Amsterdammers are much more positive about shared transport (49%), than day trippers (36%) and commuters (32%). No less than 16% are considering replacing their car with shared transport. Cost savings (39%), convenience (25%) and environmental benefits (19%) are the main advantages of shared transport. The arrival of mobility hubs, MaaS (mobility as a service) apps and more insight into current car costs are also reasons to opt for shared transport.

Campaign
The campaign makes it clear to the Amsterdammer that there are many advantages when it comes to shared transport. Do you drive less than 10,000 kilometers per year? Then a shared car is quickly cheaper. And it also results in a lot less hassle. In addition, there is the freedom of choice from a wide range of bicycles, scooters and cars, better accessibility in the city and cleaner air because much of the shared transport is electric. But also more space on the street, because if we share bicycles, scooters and cars with each other, fewer means of transport are needed.

Availability significantly increased
In the past year, the supply of shared transport in the city has increased considerably. The number of shared cars in public space has risen from 1,250 to almost 2000 and it is expected that hundreds more shared cars will be added this year. In addition, you can choose daily from about 750 shared cars of Amsterdammers who share their own car. Since last summer, 700 shared scooters have been driving through the city as an experiment and from 15 June, also as part of an experiment, 1300 shared bicycles and 100 community cargo bikes will be added step by step.

Gaan we straks met de hyperloop op vakantie, stappen we in een personendrone, of is de (elektrische) fiets hét vervoersmiddel van de toekomst? In vier artikelen zoekt NEMO Kennislink-redacteur Roel van der Heijden op welke transportmanieren we moeten inzetten. Sparen we het milieu of willen we zo snel mogelijk overal ter wereld zijn? Sommige keuzes gaan ten koste van elkaar, maar niet altijd. We definiëren steeds een nieuwe einddoel. Het eerste deel is: hoe maken we vervoer zo duurzaam mogelijk?

De (elektrische) fiets is in dit toekomstscenario doorgebroken als hét vervoersmiddel voor alle afstanden onder de pakweg twintig kilometer. Hij blijkt niet te verslaan als het om duurzaamheid gaat. Ga je iets verder dan pak je de elektrische auto of trein. Voor de echt lange reizen gebruiken mensen het vliegtuig op grotendeels synthetische brandstoffen uit duurzame stroom.

Klinkt dit scenario verrassend ‘gewoon’? De fiets, de auto en het vliegtuig als de vervoersmiddelen van de toekomst? Waar zijn de drones en hyperloops? Uit een rondgang van NEMO Kennislink bij een aantal duurzaamheids- en vervoersonderzoekers blijkt dat we het daar wat betreft duurzaamheid niet van moeten hebben.
