Pitches Amsterdam City Fellowship

Featured image

The City of Amsterdam, in cooperation with Impact Hub Amsterdam, selected 9 social enterprises to take part in the Amsterdam City Fellowship, a business development programme. For approximately 8 months, social entrepreneurs refine their business models with the aim to co-create and implement innovative solutions to health-related urban challenges such as clean air, mobility and climate resilience.

On 27 June we are hosting the finale of the Fellowship’s Business Model Challenge phase with a Stakeholder Forum, where all 9 participating social enterprises will pitch their businesses to an audience of potential partners and clients. 4 organisations will then be chosen to explore collaboration with the City and its network in facilitated meetings, and further develop their product or service.

Among others, our entrepreneurs are looking for:
* healthcare institutions who want to increase a wider audience’s access to transparent physical and mental healthcare,
* corporates who would like to engage their employees in supporting people with a mental disability,
* school boards who want to have their kids eat less sugar,
* city organisations who are aiming to improve air quality.

Please join!

The Sustainable Future of Mobility

Transportation is one of the basic human needs. To stay connected to our jobs, education and leisure activities, we are in need of mobility and access to transport. A well-connected and integrated transportation system within cities and across borders defines the economic success of the urban areas and contributes to their livability and vitality.

Six smart cities that are very smart, and why

Smart cities are no longer the future. They are here and they are growing rapidly, keeping pace with the expansion of the Internet of Things and impacting municipal services all over the world. To improve city living, smart cities collaborate with developers, big data specialists, innovators and strategic thinkers. Large companies such as IBM and Cisco work together with civic planning authorities and universities, focusing on improving public transport, law enforcement, energy use and waste management by using data-driven systems. Think smart traffic light systems, useful apps, smart street lights and smart parking.

Here are some inspiring smart cities from all corners of the globe that are getting it right – in no particular order:

Looking for thesis research topics on smart cities

Hi to all members of the community,

I have been following what people are talking around here and the more I read, the more I want to contribute in a way to help the development of smart cities knowledge.

As a short intro about myself, next year I'm going to be in the fourth and last year of my bachelor called "Business Innovation" in Amsterdam. I have a desire to do a research that focuses on the greater society and solving issues for people/planet, and I believe smart cities can offer that.

To be clear, I am not interested in doing research for i.e. "best practices inside a company to develop x,y,z"; but looking for topics such as "How will people's life change in the next 20 years in cities because of high migration number, and how smart cities can help?"

I would like to ask the community's suggestions to what are, in your opinion, important research topics worth of digging in; and secondly, if you know a company that might need me.

Key words: smart grids, renewable energy, blockchain, IoT, transportation, community, sharing economy, citizens empowerment; government; buildings; circular economy;

I'm very curious what you have on your mind, so please share it with me. Thank you!

Best regards,
Tudor
