SDG Meetup | Gender Equality

Featured image

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Meetups are an accessible platform to learn about and work on the SDGs in an entrepreneurial way, facilitating collaboration and exchanging knowledge. It is an opportunity to meet social entrepreneurs, SMEs, independent professionals and established organisations working toward the same goal.

This month's Meetup will focus on SDG 5: Gender Equality. While some forms of discrimination against women and girls are diminishing, gender inequality continues to hold women back and deprives them of basic rights and opportunities. SDG 5 is about achieving gender quality and empowering all women and girls around the world.

CONTRIBUTORS
➜ SheDecides | Rebekka van Roemburg, Special Advisor | SheDecides was created as an urgent response to US President Donald Trump’s reinstatement and dramatic expansion of the Global Gag Rule – also known as the Mexico City Policy – in January 2017. The rule prevents NGOs outside the US from receiving money from the US government if they provide safe abortions or information about abortion, and has devastating effects on women, girls and their communities around the world. SheDecides is a movement to counter the infringement on women’s right to decide about their bodies – wherever that may occur. #KnowedgeSharing

➜ Equileap | Heather Larson, Research Analyst | Equileapis a social enterprise aiming to accelerate progress towards gender equality in the workplace, using the power of investments, grants and knowledge. Headquartered in Amsterdam and London, the organisation’s profits are used to support women through social impact projects that tackle the root causes of gender inequality. Equileap believes financial empowerment and involvement in companies’ strategy and vision can provide women with the tools to improve other aspects of their lives. #Action #Inspiration

➜ She Matters | Christina Moreno, Founder & CEO | She Matters is a social enterprise and recruitment agency with a mission to empower female newcomers to enter the labour market, as well as local employers who are looking for talented and skilled workers. Through their gender-specific programming, they offer them the support they need to build their social and economic capital, boost their self-confidence and become leaders in their homes, businesses and communities. #Action #Inspiration

➜ You! | The event will continue with an interactive process facilitated by C-Change. During this part of the event, we will jointly think about various issues relating to gender equality, generate new insights for overcoming such challenges and aim to find new ways to accelerate solutions around SDG5.

It is an opportunity to meet social entrepreneurs, SMEs, independent professionals and established organisations working toward the same goal.

This month's Meetup will focus on SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being. SDG 3 is about ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being at all ages.

➜ Amref Flying Doctors | Partnerships Manager Marianne Hangelbroek | Amref Flying Doctors works to improve the health of vulnerable people in Africa. ➜ Philips & Amref Flying Doctors | Philips' Senior Consultant Sustainability Saskia Verbunt & Amref's Marianne Hangelbroek | Over the past years, Amref and Philips have joined forces to improve health care systems in Africa, moving from a donor-based relationship to a shared value partnership that leverages the skills and capabilities of each organisation. Together, the organisations will share more about their project to improve access to health care for over 20,000 people in the Makueni region in Kenya. #Action

➜ LegBank | Founder Merel Rumping | Worldwide 30 million people need orthopedic care but have limited or no access to it. This way it contributes to the well-being for all, and all ages! #Action #Innovation
