AKKA is an architecture and design studio specialized in designing spaces that foster innovation. AKKA is driven by Hughes’ vision, a philosophy called “Architecting Interaction”. Architecting Interaction explores human interactions on a scale of interventions, a scale ranging from individuals, to communities to organizations and a scale or projects ranging from products to furniture, to interiors, to buildings to urban planning. “We do not design interactions, Stephanie believes, instead we design the contexts for interactions.” We do not believe in designing interactions themselves, that’s because interactions are by nature spontaneous and context-dependent, interactions are living relationships and they always happen within a context. This is why we focus on designing the contexts in which interactions emerge and blossom. Interactions are the pre requisite to innovation. Designing the context for innovation, this is the essence of Architecting Interaction. To be able to implement our vision, we have developed our custom architectural process; a four-phased process based on the communal creation of learning. (more information at http://akkaarchitects.com).
AKKA’s core team features architects, urbanists, engineers and strategists. They are spread over seven nationalities and speak over eight languages, including English, French, Arabic, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese. In addition to its own team, AKKA frequently collaborates with various professionals and companies with diverse talents and expertise.
From its base in Amsterdam, AKKA operates around the world, particularly in Europe, The Gulf and the Middle East. Our expertise in creating spaces that foster creativity, collaboration and learning, manifests over a scale of interventions including furniture design, interior refurbishment, architectural renovation, new built as well as urban design and urban planning. AKKA’s projects span over the educational, commercial, corporate, governmental, public and private sectors.

Investors for Social Mobility

In collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure, we are working on a new opportunity for social mobility in the region of Rotterdam. It is a program that supports start-ups (as well as other companies with a start-up service) who have a service in the field of Social Mobility. Social Mobility is about mobility services that can create social impact, either by servicing the less mobile users, the ones with less financial means, addressing loneliness, lack of education…etc. For example, think of people that need the soup kitchen or the salvation army but can’t afford getting there, or people that cannot go to job interviews because they cant afford the transport to get there and are therefore stuck in a vicious circle of poverty.
We are looking for Investors that would be interested in investing in social entrepreneurs to help create social impact. Do you have contacts of know a party that could be interested, please put us in touch.

If you are or know of start-ups that have such social mobility services that would be interested in developing them, testing them with users, finding investment and scaling, please let us know! P.S: We are not only looking for start-ups, we are also welcoming established companies that have a 'start-up level' service. stephanie.hughes@akkaarchitects.com

Testers for Social Mobility

We are looking for testers. Testers can be the end-users themselves or in-between organisations, such as the Salvation army for example, which would have access to a large group of end-users. Do you have contacts of know someone that would be an early adopter of such innovative social mobility services, please put us in touch.
