Mid-scale waste-to-value transformers, on-site

Turn your last-night leftovers into energy that powers your household!

The Waste Transformers was started in 2012 by Lara van Druten. Lara had one goal: to create a flourishing business that inspires others to change the way that they deal with waste and to establish a business model able to balance financial, social and environmental returns. Today, the Waste Transformers are the recognised partner of choice for those with the ambition and courage to realize real, circular economies around waste.

The Waste Transformers creates another small-scale circular economy in Amsterdam

What is the goal of the project?

In the heart of Amsterdam, at the historic site of the Westergasfabriek, our installation converts the organic waste from ten restaurants, two theaters, a micro-brewery and a number of creative industries. This former gas coal plant and the surrounding area has been transformed into a buzzing, healthy park. Unfortunately this buzz comes with a downside, waste. The Waste Transformers have created the solution. Watch the video of the project here: https://youtu.be/JibcLOmrO5Y

What is the result of the project?

Could we power our homes on the french fries remains of a couple of nights before? In Amsterdam this has become reality. The collective organic waste from the Westerpark in Amsterdam is transformed into green energy, water and fertilizer that makes the park bloom even more. Residents around the park, and in the country, can take an energy subscription on the good vibes in the park. The Waste Transformers and partners ensure that this energy is 100% local and green.

Who initiated the project and which organizations are involved?

Lara van Druten is the founder of The Waste Transformers. Together with the Municipality of Amsterdam, The Westergasfabriek and Vandebron this project is launched. You can visit the installation at the Westerpark, right behind the Westergasfabriek. How does it work? Watch the video: https://youtu.be/JibcLOmrO5Y

What is the next step?

A Waste Transformer is ideal for companies, communities and cities who produce at least 600 kg of organic waste a day. It reduces the amount of driven KM by dieseltrucks on the road and waste is transformed into something valuable.

What can other cities learn from your project?

Waste does not have to be treated as waste. It actually has a lot of value. A Waste Transformer is a plug and play installation. If there is room on site for three or more shipping containers, a Waste Transformer can be placed. If you produce at least 600 kg a day, even better 1200 kg of organic waste a day, get in contact with The Waste Transformers.
