Main goal of the event is to empower cities and collectivize urban innovation across the globe. We asked our partners why they will join the Dutch innovation mission to Barcelona. This time we’d like to introduce you to Servaz van Berkum, Program Maker Mobility & Technology at Pakhuis de Zwijger.

So, Servaz, what is Pakhuis de Zwijger?

Pakhuis de Zwijger is an independent platform on urban innovation for and by the city of Amsterdam and its inhabitants. Together with more than 150 partners, we organize over 600 events per year on a wide range of urban-topics, for an audience of almost 200.000 people per year (both in-house and online). We cover a wide range of topics, from climate change to logistics and inclusive cities.

What is your vision of a smart city?

Smart cities are about so much more than technology, it's should bring people together and let them engage on issues that are important for urban life. Smart cities should use technology to empower people and to help solve the major questions of our time. Pakhuis de Zwijger is building communities with this goal in mind, by connecting people, promoting innovation and civic dialogue.

What is your reason to join the Smart City Expo in Barcelona?

For the 2020 edition of the urban festival WeMakeThe.City, we are looking for partner cities to build an Europe by Cities. And for Pakhuis de Zwijger, we are always looking for new connections and new ideas on urban innovation and furthering the civic dialogue.

At the Smart City Expo Barcelona, you can find Metabolic, Amsterdam Smart City and other Dutchies a lot at the Dutch Pavilion. Street D, Stand 473.

Do we see you there?
