make the circular economy more tangible
Urban Factory - AUAS (HvA)
What is the goal of the project?
The project focuses on circular, local and digital production. Circular production means producing on the basis of waste and residual waste in such a way that the material can be reused for a high-quality purpose after the product has been disposed of. In this instance, local means inside the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (AMA). Digital production means using computer-operated production techniques. The aim, within this research project, is to connect networks and knowledge from various sectors – the construction, manufacturing and creative industries – and, at the same time, take a step towards concrete uses and products which can then be sold locally. The project is leading to a (temporary) 'Urban Factory' at one or more locations in the Amsterdam Matropolitan Region (AMA) and shows how the circular economy can be given concrete form. On the basis of applied research, prototyping and business models, Urban Factory is working on concrete cases from the business community in the AMA.
What is the result of the project?
Until 2018, together with partners in the AMA, students and researchers at the AUAS/HvA, innovative uses are going to be explored, product concepts designed and prototypes developed which contribute to and boost the circular economy in the AMA, and more specifically the manufacturing industry.
Who initiated the project and which organizations are involved?
Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA)
Hi there,
I'm a second year Geography student studying at the University of Southampton and next week a group of us are travelling to Amsterdam to study how Amsterdam is paving the way with Smart City projects. I was wondering if anyone would be able to answer some questions regarding this project ??
