Nice article by MIT Technology Review on the adoption of covid-19 apps

Featured image

'The early focus on contact tracing apps for covid-19 was understandable: a vaccine is still many months away, assuming we can even find one that will work. Apps stepped into the breach as a potential panacea—even though many insiders have consistently argued that they are only one of a number of tools we have to fight the virus.'

And are they working? Will people use it? The article shows that France and Australia have some struggles in making the technology work while also trying to get people adopt the app. Eventually, technology will work. Success is however dependent on the willingness of usage by the people.

Are you interested in the Dutch plans for a covid-19 contact tracing app? What kind of ideas do they have to enthuse people to use the CoronaMelder? Or would you like to know how other cities and countries convinced people to use such technology? Join us on the 3rd of September 2020 in an online session! Website launched for research in Amsterdam Metropolitan Area

Sharing knowledge has become a lot easier. Research, knowledge and innovation about Amsterdam and the Metropolitan Area are now collected and shared on the website openresearch.amsterdam. Here you can find knowledge you need to bring projects a step further and share your own research.

A lot of research is being done in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. Researchers, officials and designers work to understand complex problems. Problems that contain all kinds of themes and disciplines that are important for the smart, green and healthy future of the region. There is already a lot of collaboration, but many organizations are still working on research on the same topics, while they don't know each other. That is why there is OpenResearch - to share research and knowledge and to make connections visible.

Amsterdam Smart City uses OpenResearch to communicate the research we did in the past and bring knowledge about the themes we work on. You can also find all our publications on the platform.

The platform was developed by the Chief Science Office of Amsterdam, together with the knowledge institutions, the Amsterdam Economic Board and other parties from the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area under the City Deal Knowledge Making. The site is still under development.

5 maart 2020: Eerlijke Algoritmen

15 maart 2019: Amsterdam Smart City: De Digitale Stad

Do you have a novel idea that can help solve urban challenges in Amsterdam?

Join the Amsterdam City Challenge, a 24-hour non-stop pressure cooker event on 16-17 June to kick-off the WeMakeThe.City festival. These videos tell you why!

As the city becomes more densely populated, city authorities face the growing challenge of ensuring that citizens have affordable and sustainable energy and mobility options. The Amsterdam City Challenge will allow you to work in a multi-disciplinary team to ideate, uncover insights and propose innovative solutions to the city's urban challenges.

Co-design sustainable urban solutions

During the 24 hours, the participants will be guided by experts from the energy and mobility sectors. At the end of the event, a panel of experts from different backgrounds will select the winning teams and award the following Prizes:
