🔄 How shareable is urban knowledge? Through scientific research, the Closer Cities urban initiative focuses on 'barriers and boosts' of knowledge sharing: what hinders it, what stimulates it, and how can we use these insights in optimizing knowledge sharing?

Closer Cities seeks to answer these questions. We are motivated by the urge to share what's shareable. It is our mission to make knowledge that is currently “invisible”, tied to its origin and unrecognized by the larger urban community, visible and shareable. In the end, we strongly believe that a better exchange and use of urban knowledge and experience can have a significant positive societal impact.

'5 questions to' series
As part of the platform, we showcase the extensive array of existing urban research. We developed the ‘5 questions to’ series in which we ask researchers and scientists to briefly reflect on their research (project) and the shareability of their insights by answering five questions.

How to participate
Closer Cities is calling all scientists to participate in our '5 questions to' series. The insights you share via the five questions form will be published on the Closer Cities website. Accordingly, you contribute to our aim of optimizing the shareability of knowledge. In turn, we would like to give you the opportunity to share insight from your research. About Closer Cities
The Closer Cities urban research project (2021-2030) aims to contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Or, in short, what are the barriers and boosts?

Bij Over Morgen zoeken we een ervaren kwartiermaker en adviseur die ons gaat helpen bij lokale of regionale overheden de voedseltransitie te versnellen. Hoe maken we samen gezond en eerlijk voedsel voor iedereen toegankelijk? Hoe krijgt gezonder eten een plek in onze leefomgeving?

Als kwartiermaker zorg jij met lef en visie dat je de voedseltransitie bij overheden op de agenda krijgt. Jij hebt de overtuigingskracht om mensen mee te nemen en ziet het helemaal zitten om daar zelfstandig nieuwe ingangen en opdrachten in te vinden.

Als adviseur ben jij in staat om daar verandering in te brengen bij of samen met opdrachtgevers. Dat kan in verschillende rollen, als kwartiermaker, projectleider of (strategisch) adviseur. Vaak is dat bij een gemeente of provincie, maar we verkennen ook met marktpartijen wat zij in het mandje kunnen leggen voor die gezonde voedselomgeving.

Jij:

• Hebt een afgeronde HBO of WO-opleiding
• Hebt ervaring met publieke organisaties; minimaal 5 jaar werkervaring als adviseur, projectleider of kwartiermaker; meer werkervaring is een pré.
• Weet precies hoe je effectief beleid maakt. Je kunt schakelen van strategisch naar detailniveau en andersom
• Hebt een goed gevoel voor politieke en bestuurlijke verhoudingen, maar wordt er ook stiekem een beetje ongeduldig van
• Hebt een netwerk binnen het werkveld van eiwittransitie, korte ketens, voedselverspilling of gezonde voedselomgeving bij overheden of netwerkinitiatieven

Over Space & Matter
Space&Matter is een Amsterdams ontwerpbureau voor ruimtelijk en strategisch ontwerp in de gebouwde omgeving. Met een integrale benadering werken wij aan complexe opgaven van gebouw tot gebiedsontwikkeling. Duurzaamheid en maatschappelijke impact staan hierbij altijd centraal. Je kent ons misschien van circulaire broedplaats De Ceuvel, Het Sweets Hotel (in de Amsterdamse brugwachtershuisjes) en de drijvende wijk Schoonschip.

Naast deze Amsterdamse projecten, die over de hele wereld bekendheid hebben verworven, werken wij internationaal aan projecten die een steentje bijdragen aan een circulaire maatschappij en een inclusieve leefomgeving.

Met onze projecten, concepten en initiatieven willen wij echt game-changing zijn en bijdragen aan een duurzame toekomst. R&D bij Space&Matter
Matter is de R&D tak van Space&Matter. Hier analyseren we het systeem achter de gebouwde omgeving en ontwikkelen we tools en methoden die mensen, organisaties en ideeën bij elkaar brengen om de leefbaarheid van steden te verbeteren, nu en in de toekomst. We richten ons op de commons, coöperatieve modellen, community land trust, circulariteit, tools voor digitale governance, sociale en ecologische meetinstrumenten en de donuteconomie in de gebouwde omgeving.

Ons onderzoek sluit vaak aan bij subsidieprogramma's waarmee we onze inspanningen kunnen financieren en bovendien verwachten we dat met de verschuiving naar circulaire en sociaal inclusieve benaderingen in de gebiedsontwikkeling we een toename zullen zien van de vraag naar onze kennis en tools.

We hebben momenteel een klein, toegewijd team en we zijn klaar om onze impact te vergroten.

Over de rol
Als onderzoeker breng je structuur aan in de maatschappelijke uitdagingen in de gebouwde omgeving en gebruik je wetenschap, logica en praktijkervaring om deze te ontleden in praktische, schaalbare oplossingen. Het is jouw taak om kennis te vergaren over eigendomsmodellen en bestuursprocessen en deze te vertalen naar heldere tools en instrumenten voor projectontwikkelaars, architecten, gemeenten en burgers.

Jouw verantwoordelijkheden omvatten:

• Schrijven en aanvragen van subsidies (in NL en EU)
• Ontwikkelen van “thought leadership” over onze meest relevante thema's (Coöperatief model, Community land Trust-model, bestuursmodellen, circulariteit in de gebouwde omgeving)
• Onze kennis over de commons implementeren in nieuwe concepten voor gebouwen en gebieden
• Presentaties geven voor verschillende doelgroepen
• Artikelen schrijven en publiceren over het onderzoeksdomein
• Opbouwen van een sterk netwerk met de academische wereld en kennisinstituten

* This challenge is connected to the EU-funded (Horizon 2020) research and innovation project SCOREwater. It focusses on enhancing the resilience of cities against climate change and urbanisation by enabling a water smart society. The project develops smart (sensor based) solutions in three different cities, Amersfoort (Netherlands), Barcelona (Spain) and Göteborg (Sweden). The overarching vision is to link the physical and digital world for city water management solutions.

As cities worldwide attract more and more people, public space is coming increasingly under pressure. Climate change and rapid urbanisation are intensifying the problems faced by people living in urban areas. Why: creating greater impact
As a small country, the Netherlands is committed to achieving the world’s sustainable development and climate goals by sharing ideas and working together to overcome challenges. By sharing our knowledge and expertise with our international partners, and learning from others, the Netherlands can create greater impact. That's why we have devised a series of symbolic actions. This symbolic action 'Connected Cities' seeks to help urban areas develop resilience by sharing solutions online.

What: sharing urban ideas and best practices
We are calling on urban innovators, inventors, creatives, makers, startups, scale ups, do-gooders and anyone else with a great idea to share it via the Closer Cities platform. Closer Cities is a non-profit initiative supported by the Easmus Initiative Vital Cities Citizens, the Institute for Housing and Development Studies and Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies and Leiden - Delft Erasmus Centre for BOLD Cities.

How: What you can do?
Each and every day, the most amazing and impactful developments are made in cities around the globe. But all too often they go unnoticed. This is a real pity, since many of these projects are worth sharing. We need to make great projects that the world should know about more visible. The idea or project needs to meet the following criteria:

• Is this idea shareable and repeatable? 
• Does it address the SDGs, climate change, wellbeing, diversity, youth, housing or education?
• Or does it just make the city a better place?

Projects at any stage of development will be accepted. Remember no Dutch involvement is required. It’s all about cities helping other cities to improve. At the same time, you become part of a bigger movement helping the transition towards creating liveable cities. Closer Cities will conduct scientific research into which factors drive successful sharing. By sharing ideas online, we can help solve global challenges together. If you know about ideas that help achieve the sustainable development goals, address climate change or just make the world a better place, then we want to hear about it on the Closer Cities website.

How can you submit a project

Applications for the 2022 New European Bauhaus prizes are open. Following the success of the first prizes that received more than 2,000 applications last year, the 2022 edition will celebrate new inspiring examples of the transformations the initiative wants to bring about in our daily lives, living spaces and experiences. As in the first edition, the New European Bauhaus prizes 2022 will award young talents' ideas as well as existing projects for sustainability, inclusiveness and aesthetics bringing the European Green deal to people and local communities.

Prizes will be awarded to projects and ideas that contribute to beautiful, sustainable and inclusive places, in four categories:

• Reconnecting with nature;
• Regaining a sense of belonging;
• Prioritising the places and people that need it most;

Who are our pioneers?

The Impact Program is suitable for people from all walks of life with an ambitious and entrepreneurial nature. The criteria

• All pioneers(s) or team members must be at least 18 years old
• The pioneer needs to have a concrete, actionable business idea or product
• A genuine excitement to have a positive impact within Amsterdam and beyond
• Each pioneer must demonstrate unwavering commitment to work on their business idea
• Each pioneer must make a commitment to spend around 2 to 3 hours a week at the program; e-learning, online and offline coaching, home work
• Available in Oct/Nov/Feb for a monthly offsite event
• The Pioneer is comfortable enough to speak at a TEDx event in English

For the idea to be suitable, you will want to keep in mind about whether you:

• Found a problem worth solving
• Have a viable business model (problem/solution fit) for the product/service

The Dutch embassy in Seoul is inviting (online and, if possible, offline) Dutch companies to the Netherlands Pavilion at the World Smart City Expo in South Korea from 8 to 10 September! You can register and participate for free to have your company promoted during the expo.

The embassy can represent you in the Netherlands Pavilion with your own brochures, videos, posters and other promotional material. You can also participate in other online business activities around the fair. If the current travel restrictions for South Korea (2 weeks quarantine) are lifted, you can of course also participate physically.

Dutch-Korean Smart city cooperation

Various missions, a Government-to-Government Memorandum of Understanding (G2G-MoU) and smart city awards have brought Dutch and Korean activities in the field of smart city closer together since 2018. Smart cities are an important growth market. Partly for this reason, the Netherlands is very well represented with its own pavilion at the World Smart City Expo 2021 in Seoul.

Participation is interesting if your company is active in the field of energy-neutral construction ('zero energy building'), smart mobility ('smart mobility') or urban agriculture ('urban agriculture'). It doesn't matter if you are a start-up, want to seize international opportunities for the first time, or are already active internationally.

De Amsterdamse economie is zwaar getroffen door de coronacrisis. Daarom heeft gemeente Amsterdam extra geld beschikbaar gesteld om de economie juist in deze moeilijke tijden aan te jagen.

De subsidies zijn bedoeld om vernieuwing en werkgelegenheid in onderstaande sectoren te realiseren:

• circulaire economie
• energietransitie
• schone en slimme mobiliteit
• digitaliseren
• gezondheid

De steun zal in de vorm zijn van twee subsidies. Hieronder lees je meer over de subsidies.

Subsidie om een projectvoorstel te schrijven

Amsterdam stelt extra geld beschikbaar voor ondernemers die bijdragen aan duurzaam economisch herstel in tijden van corona. Heb je een idee dat niet van de grond komt tijdens de coronacrisis? Ontvang tot 25.000 euro om een projectvoorstel van tenminste 2 miljoen te ontwikkelen voor een Nationaal of Europees coronaherstel- of stimuleringsfonds.

Subsidie om een project te realiseren

Amsterdam stelt extra geld beschikbaar voor ondernemers die bijdragen aan duurzaam economisch herstel in tijden van corona. Heb je een project dat niet van de grond komt tijdens de coronacrisis? Krijg 100.000 tot 500.000 euro subsidie om jouw project te realiseren.

(junior) Communicatie- en programmamedewerker

Amsterdam Smart City is een onafhankelijk innovatieplatform dat innovatieve bedrijven, kennisinstellingen, overheden en proactieve bewoners samenbrengt en vorm geeft aan de stad van de toekomst.

Wij zijn ervan overtuigd dat de veranderingen die nodig zijn voor de vooruitgang van de stad en regio alleen gerealiseerd kunnen worden door samen te werken. Al onze activiteiten zijn daarom gericht op het faciliteren van ontmoeting, interactie en samenwerking, zodat partijen samen tastbare, duurzame innovaties tot stand kunnen brengen. Amsterdam Smart City richt zich met name op deze vier thema’s: mobiliteit, de digitale stad, energie en circulaire economie. Met het Amsterdam Smart City team zorgen we voor verbinding.

Wat ga je doen?
Je voert de communicatie- en communitystrategie actief uit door het maken van content, het schrijven van nieuwsbrieven, beheren van onze social media kanalen en het organiseren van events. Je bent veel in contact met de partners en andere organisaties binnen het netwerk van ASC.

Daarnaast werk je met onze partners aan het aanjagen van innovaties binnen het transitiepad Mobiliteit & Logistiek en legt verbindingen met de community. Ook breid je het netwerk uit met relevante organisaties en innovatieve projecten. De communicatie- en programmamedewerker werkt nauw samen met het gehele smart city team en legt verantwoording af aan de communicatiemanager. Daarnaast heb je een aantal programma ondersteunende taken.

Taken
• Je beheert onze social media kanalen, geeft inzage in de statistieken en onderneemt actie op basis van de data.
• Je onderhoudt het dagelijks contact met de leden van onze community op www.amsterdamsmartcity.com
• Je verzamelt, schrijft, redigeert en publiceert content voor de community en andere stakeholders.
• Je organiseert en draagt bij aan evenementen voor partners en ons bredere netwerk in de regio en communiceert hierover.
• Je coördineert, onder begeleiding, je eigen transitiepad: Mobiliteit & Logistiek en monitort voortgang van projecten en legt verbindingen.
• Je verbindt, mobiliseert en activeert partners en communityleden
• Je voert ondersteunende programma taken uit, zoals het vormgeven van presentaties en zorgdragen voor documentatie en het bijhouden van het CRM systeem.

Profiel:
• WO/HBO werk- en denkniveau
• Opleiding op gebied van communicatie of vergelijkbaar
• 1-2 jaar werkervaring
• Goede beheersing van Nederlands en Engels in woord en schrift
• Ervaring op het gebied van online communicatie, community management en/of projectondersteuning
• Affiniteit met innovatie en stedelijke ontwikkelingen, met het thema Mobiliteit & Logistiek in het bijzonder
• Type aanpakker, zelfstandig, communicatief sterk en flexibel.
• Gedreven in het creëren van maatschappelijke waarde

Wat bieden wij?
Wij bieden je een fijne werkplek op het Marineterrein in Amsterdam, met een informele en collegiale sfeer. Op dit moment werken we uiteraard veel thuis. We zijn een klein team (6 personen) waarin we nauw met elkaar samenwerken. We werken intensief samen met een grote groep gedreven mensen die zich inzetten voor een duurzame stad en regio, voor iedereen. Het is een regionale, nationale én internationale werkomgeving waarin je eigen inbreng en pro-activiteit zeer gewaardeerd worden.

We zoeken iemand voor 32-40 uur per week.  Salarisindicatie o.b.v. 40 uur: €2.900 - €3.400 bruto excl vakantiegeld en eindejaarsuitkering. Wij bieden een jaarcontract met uitzicht op een vaste aanstelling.

Creatives, have you signed up for the #NoWasteChallenge yet? This global design competition is looking for exciting, design-driven solutions to waste and consumerism. And it’s ready for your application!

As small as it may be, the Netherlands has been a powerful trading nation for centuries. This continues today, with its capital acting as an international hub for creativity, tech and finance. It is called ‘a distribution country’ for a reason: large sums of money are involved in the import and export of goods and e-commerce is booming. But the long chains that characterise this international trading system often results in high amounts of overproduction and waste.

Within this system, multinationals and big corporations seem to have the most control. Because clothing, goods and food are produced on such a large scale, big companies have a cost advantage over small entrepreneurs. This makes it difficult for local designers and producers with more sustainable initiatives to get their foot in the door. Instead, the Netherlands is outsourcing the production of almost everything (except food) in exchange for low costs, resulting in goods and clothing of increasingly poor quality, that quickly end up as waste.

Submissions can be anything from sustainable fashion, to landscape design, digital tools, or new tech. Winning ideas will be made into a reality with €10.000 in funding, a development programme co-created with Impact Hub and plenty of publicity.
