National Finals ClimateLaunchpad @AMS Institute

Featured image

You're invited to digitally join us August 6th from 4-6 PM for the National Finals of the ClimateLaunchpad @AMS Institute.

Hear how a new generation of ambitious entrepreneurs want to make a difference on the topic of (urban) climate. The ideas range from cool mobility conversions, savvy energy applications to circular business models.

About this event
Eight teams have been working all summer long to develop their urban sustainable business ideas. They have been talking to potential customers and producers, and were coached by experts.

Now is the time to hear if they’re ready to turn ideas into reality. The finals are open for anyone who is eager to hear what these young great minds have come up with and maybe you can even help them along their journey to becoming a start-up.

Which idea is ready for the next step?
The teams will each pitch for 3 minutes followed by Q&A. Prizes to be won are 2 tickets to the regional final (also digital), a 3 month free testing trial at the Marineterrein Living lab, an entry ticket for the AMS Start-up Booster program (pre-incubation program starting in the fall) and a free consultation with Boris Lambert of the Positive Venture group.

After the pitches, the panel will deliberate and in the meantime the audience can vote for the public choice winner. To keep you entertained we have some interesting relaxation in store for you.

The teams will be judged by our panel of experts: Minouche Cramer & Ilona Kemps (Municipality of Amsterdam, Startup In Residence), Nadinè Galle (co-founder Green City Watch, MIT Senseable City Lab), Matthew Claudel (Co-founder and head of civic innovation MITdesignX).

ClimateLaunchpad is the world’s largest green business ideas competition, initiated by EIT Climate-KIC.

Mark your calendars to join this important moment for the competing teams. Register here to join the event. You will receive a zoom link to join the event.

RE:SHAPING CITIES | LIVE WEBINAR SERIES | 'TOURISM & THE CITY' | POST-PANDEMIC PERSPECTIVES

Featured image

If there is one sector that has been sacrificing itself to flatten the COVID-19 curve, it is tourism. Cities specifically have experienced the collapse of an industry that had been growing for decades. How will the industry resurrect itself? What will change and what will stay the same? What is a tourist in the post-pandemic city, what do they want, and how can cities accommodate this? Are crowds still acceptable or will we see a “waterbed effect”? Will there be more “staycations” and local travel? What is the value of tourism for cities? What does this mean for urban planning? Could there be a shift from mass tourism to a city focused on quality and well-being? Will digital tourism gain ground and what does it look like? Together with our guest speakers, April Rinne and Spiros Pengas, we will explore a variety of topics around tourism and travel. We invite you to join this exciting webinar and actively be part of predicting what the post-pandemic city could look like with a turnaround of tourism.

7e monitor internationale voorbeelden aanpak corona

Public space, a distinguishing characteristic of cities

My newest post is about public space. In the Netherlands we have quite a lot of good examples, that came into existence in an organic way or that have been designed recently. In this post I refer a lot to Amsterdam, so don't miss it.
Smart designers also add light and smell (of oranges) to influence the mood the public.

The new commons: Empowering citizens

In a time that empowering citizens is hot, you might consider reading the seminal book of Elinor Ostrom, Governing the Commons. No time? My newest post is informative too and offers many examples of urban commons. Empty work space buildings towards living work space

From this covid19 pandemic, many company buildings will become unoccupied due to termination of corporations and job layoffs. It offers great opportunities for new Dutch real estate management to make buildings smarter, better, safer, cleaner, and if possible to fill the office buildings with temporary living space.

Looking for people to help find buildings with: empty workspace with transition towards new work & living space transition options
example existing transformation office building with hotel living space at office (full kitchen and bathroom) https://roundme.com/tour/369948/view/1263081/

Looking for people with new SMART ideas to help transform empty work spaces towards new, abd safe areas with clean toilet/shower. (e.g. office space towards temp student dorm)
Would be great if you have experience with real estate anti squatting, government license, property management for empty buildings/leegstandsbeheer.
Please contact me at info(at)pursangroyal.com or call met at 06 53240595
Our goal is to create a better solution to transform work space towards feasible solutions for clients.
The process : contact prospects, photo shoot 3 D spaces and draw solutions, write a short transition plan with option to fill empty work space
You will get paid per project, and travel cost will be covered. As well, you need to be able to speak well with prospects face to face, and have great judgement concerning safety, government license necessity, and feasibility for the clients.

RE:SHAPING CITIES | LIVE WEBINAR | WORK & THE CITY

Featured image

The world of work is rapidly changing. While automation and innovation were already disrupting our jobs, the current pandemic is accelerating this drastic development. New dilemmas arise. To what extent will people still convene in person? Will this be the end of “office centricity”? Will this lead to a decline of “city centricity”, too? How will these changes affect our work-life balance? How much office space do we actually need in a (post) pandemic era? How will urban business environments adapt? And should we bracing ourselves for widespread job losses or will we rise again and find new ways towards resilience? Although there are challenges, we will use this webinar to explore opportunities and come up with insights and ideas together to be able to embrace the current state of flux and fix the post-pandemic future of work.

Hier werken meerdere partners aan mee o.a.: RIVM, Omgevingsdienst IJmond, Omgevingsdienst Noordzeekanaal, TATA Steel, Smart City Haarlem, Gemeente Zaanstad, Gemeente Haarlem, Buiksloterham Circulair, Brak! IJmuiden en Waag.

Citizen Sensing

In samenwerking met o.a.

wireless audio systems - leisure social distanciation

Hi! I'm in charge of the animation of the guided tour industry in Brussels. The issue is : speaking loud & audible with a mask is not ideal for tours even if you are 6 (usually a guided tour is up to 25 people). I was wondering if you heard about initiatives regarding social distancing between transmitter and receivers, in the context of tour guides (app for wireless audio systems; touchless materials, whispers-audio-systems,...)? In the context of the crisis, I think such technology could be used for many other citizen activity (teacher in a classroom, public (physical) presentation,...).

WHERE ARE YOU WORKING ON 23.06.2020?

The Outdoor Office Day comes at a moment that many people are slowly returning to their old habits of living and working. Tuesday 23 June 2020 offers a great opportunity to look back and reflect on what we have experienced. Since March we have mostly worked from home and redefined the ways in which we communicate and relax. We have created home offices; if possible we did that in our gardens, balconies, on our roof terraces and in front of our windows hoping to catch a ray of sun shine. We have surrounded ourselves with plants. We have learned to grab every opportunity to go outdoors to exercise, work, meet, learn, relax, play, breath in the fresh air or watch the sky. Social media is filled with photos of people celebrating Spring, witnessing the first green leaves, flowers and fruit trees in bloom.

The pandemic showed us all that we need nature more than ever. We also help each other more than ever and seem to adapt to the situation quickly. Every day we are getting more and more creative. So stay healthy while working! Let’s celebrate life and - for the ones who can do that - make each day a bit of an #OutdoorOfficeDay.

The challenge is open to anyone with an innovative idea, including citizens, NGO’s, start-ups, SME’s and corporates. Interested parties should submit their proposal by Friday, June 5 at 19:00.

Selection Process

Following an initial evaluation the top three ideas per challenge will be invited to pitch their solution during an online event on Wednesday, June 10. A jury will select a winning idea based on the following criteria:

  • How well does the solution address one or more challenges?
  • How innovative, sustainable and inclusive is the solution?
  • What is the economic and social impact of the solution?
  • Can the solution be implemented quickly?
  • Does the solution have the potential to scale-up nationally or internationally?

Waarom urgent?
